Severstal becomes one of the three most competitive steel-smelting companies in the world

The international research company World Steel Dynamics (WSD) has made a rating of the 35 most competitive steel-smelting companies in the world on results of 2012. Severstal, one of the largest world vertically integrated steel-smelting and mining companies, was the third in this rating, got ahead of such companies as Indian JSW Steel (the 4th place), Jaoanese Nippon Sumitomo (the 5th place), Brazilian Gerdau (the 6th place), American Nucor (the 7th place) and many others.

The rating was made by World Steel Dynamics on the basis of the assessment of 23 parameters, including the profitability, cost reduction overall performance, financial soundness and industrial safety. Severstal has had the highest rates in such parameters as efficiency of resource policy, presence at markets with high growth rates, effectiveness of measures to reduce prime costs and others.

“The sequence in the implementation of the strategy, aimed at the increase of the total industry efficiency, provided soundness and stability for our company in not simple market conditions; and we are pleased that experts of World Steel Dynamics noted this,” – the Severstal’s Deputy General Director of Strategy and Corporate Company Development Tomas Verasto commented on.

For the 4th year in a row, WSD acknowledged the leading steel producer of South Korea  - Posco – the leader in competitiveness.
