Poroshenko agrees to compromise with Russia on gas

Europe will again try to initiate Ukrainian-Russian gas negotiations. The European Commissioner for Energy, Gunther Oettinger said that he would discuss the issue during his visit to Moscow at the end of August. Meetings with the Energy Minister, Alexander Novak and chairman of the Gazprom’s Board Alexei Miller are scheduled during the visit. Kiev doesn’t rely on the success of the negotiations and prepares to spend the winter without Russian gas, the supply of which was terminated on June, 16th.

Let’s recall, the last round of the gas talks took place in early June. Then, the parties came to an agreement not to interrupt the supply of gas, not to introduce an advance payment, not to apply to the Stockholm arbitration, and to continue the negotiations.
