Exxon Mobil might become new operator of Kashagan

The largest American oil and gas company Exxon Mobil might become the operator of the largest Kazakh deposit Kashagan.

This issue is being discussed but Exxon might be appointed in late June. The company doesn’t comment.

From the beginning of the project in 2001 Eni has been its operator, but from time it lost its leading role due to delays and growth of expenditure for the development of a giant Caspian deposit with the estimated reserves of more than 30 bln barrels. The production at Kashagan started in September 2013 after numerous delays, however, soon it was stopped due to the gas leakage in the pipelines.
