EU Commission not to hold negotiations on the unification of the price of Russian gas in the EU

The EU Commission does not plan to hold negotiations with Russia on the unification of the gas price for the European countries. The European Union hopes for the harmonization of prices from various sources available, while creating a unified gas market in the EU, the press-secretary of the EU, S.Berger said.

G.Oettinger, the EU Commissioner, asserted that the EU is for an equal gas price for all the countries-members of the EU, Reuters reports. The share of the Russian Gazprom makes up about 30% of the EU gas market.

“Oettinger spoke about the anticipation that after the creation of a domestic gas market and  the  expansion of market principles in gas purchases, the prices in the EU will come closer to each other,” Berger explained. The EU believes that gas prices are to be based on competition and not attached to oil prices. “In order that gas producers and suppliers could compete with each other,” Berger added.
