The European Commission (EC) has demanded an explanation from Hungary on the adoption of a law allowing Budapest to accelerate the construction of the South Stream gas pipeline.
"The EC is currently in contact with the Hungarian authorities to seek clarification on this issue," - said a representative of the European Commission at the press briefing in Brussels.
The fact that the Hungarian Parliament approved a bill, supported by the country's Prime Minister Viktor Orban, became known on November, 3rd. 132 deputies voted for the document, 35 people voted against it.
As the former assistant of Orban, Attila Holoda noted in the comment to the Bloomberg, the law was passed to show the seriousness of Hungary intentions regarding South Stream to Russia.
