Achimgaz starts the next stage of the development of the deposit
The German-Russian joint venture Achimgaz has started the next stage of the development of the deposit. Wintershall AG and Gazprom are going to increase the production at the deposit to the level of 8 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.
Achimgaz was created in June of 2003 on parity basis with participation of Wintershall AG (100% subsidiary of the concern BASF) and Gazpromdobycha Urengoi (100% subsidiary of Gazprom). Achimgaz extracts 1 billion cubic meters of gas per year from 6 pilot holes in a very difficult geologically and technologically Achimov layer of the Urengoi oil and gas condensate deposit.
In November of 2011, the next stage of the project development started, within of which 20 wells will be built at first. For this time, the construction of 3 wells have been completed, another 2 are drilled. In the nearest years and decades more than 100 well will be drilled, and they will increase the production to the level of 8 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.
In addition, Wintershall AG and Gazprom map out to develop another 2 blocks of the Achimov deposits (blocks IV and V), with an annual production capacity of additional 8 billion cubic meters of natural gas, the Wintershall Holding GmbH’s press-centre reports.
