The Ukraine will be bound to load 19 bln cubic m of gas into underground gas storage facilities, EU Commission – to support financially – Novak

Russia, the Ukraine and EU Commission at the discussion of a new “gas package” for Kiev have agreed that the Ukraine would be bound to load at least 19 bln cubic m of gas into its underground gas storage facilities. The EU undertakes to help Kiev financially to purchase the necessary volumes, the Minister of Energy of Russia, A. Novak, said.

“Yesterday a working meeting between Russia, the Ukraine and EU was held. A possible decision was discussed which would be made at the level of Ministers and deputy chairman of EU Commission”, A. Novak said.

“The protocol will indicate gas volumes to be loaded by the start of the heating season into the underground gas storage facilities – not less than 19 bln cubic m”, he said. “We have also agreed that the protocol will state that the EU Commission would finance the gas purchase by the Ukraine in case of absence of such funds”, Mr. Novak added.
