New classification of hydrocarbon reserves to be introduced in Russia from 2016

The demand for new classification of hydrocarbon reserves was stated by the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Sergei Donskoy at the past meeting of the State commission on mineral reserves, the Ministry’s press centre reports. The report emphasizes that there are a lot of “difficult” oil in the country, but there are no concrete criteria for the classification of the reserves.
“This is a real problem, especially as benefits for difficult oil production began to appear. If we want efficient benefits, the notion of difficult reserves must be defined,” – S.Donskoy notes.
Let’s recall, it was said at the past SPIEF-2014 that unconventional reserves were one of the main potential areas of the domestic oil industry's development. Russia has the largest deposits of shale oil in the world. Only the reserves of the Bazhenov group are estimated at 2.300 billion barrels, and geological reserves of supervicious oil and native bitumen at 55 billion tons.
