Guenther Oettinger: Southern gas corridor has a great importance for energy safety of Europe

Azerbaijan has shown itself as a reliable partner, the Norwegian Deputy Minister of Oil and Energy Kåre Fostervold stated at the opening of the XXIth International exhibition-conference “Oil and Gas of the Caspian Sea”. Fostervold also noted that they welcomed activity of Azerbaijan in the field of transparency. Then letter of the EU Energy Commissioner Guenther Oettinger was read; it said that a significant advancement had been achieved in implementation of the Southern gas corridor project. “We also must take important steps to supply Azerbaijani gas to Europe before 2019. The Southern gas corridor has a great importance for the energy safety of Europe. Europe need 550 billion cubic meters per year. Azerbaijan can satisfy at least 10%, and at most 20% of the European need in gas due to the Southern gas corridor. We support negotiations on the Trans-Caspian pipeline with Turkmenistan and are optimistic on the further cooperation”.
