Nord Stream-2 to meet European but not Russian rules

The EU Commission still thinks that Nord Stream-2 is to fully meet the European legislation and can’t be realized by the Russian rules, the chairman of the EU Commission, Y. Adamovich, said.

If EU Commission Nord Stream-2 is constructed, it is to work in the framework of the legislation which takes into account our rules in the energy market, he said.

Adamovich said that recently the Vice-President of the EU Commission, M. Shefcovich, reported on the position of the EU Commission on the legislative aspect of the project.

Previously it was reported that the Governments of 8 EU countries sent a letter to the chairman of the EU Commission, J.-C. Yunker, opposing the construction of Nord Stream-2 which will double the direct gas supply from Russia to Germany.

Nord Stream-2 might have certain risks for the energy safety of the Central and Eastern Europe. It will seriously influence on the development of the gas market and structure of gas transit, primarily on the transit route via the Ukraine, was said in the letter.
