“Gazprom” is approved with LNG carrier documentation

The Russian Marine Registry of Shipping has completed the approval of the engineering documentations of liquefied natural gas tanker, which will become a basis of gas carrier fleet within the framework of the meeting of future requirements of the “Gazprom” Group. The press-service of the Maritime Registrar stated.

The approved vessel type (name title – Gaz-Ice) exceeds the characteristics of 4 up-to-date gas carriers of the series “Veliky Novgorod” on a number of criteria, which are constructed in South Korea now for “Gazprom Marketing and Trading” (an affiliate of “Gazprom registered in Great Britain) and “Shell” under the supervision of PC and Lloyds Register.

In accordance with the requirements of “Gazprom” the project was developed and approved in 2 variants – with an appliance of dual-fuel diesel-electric (DFDE) and a use of two-cycle slow-speed engines, equipped by modern gas injection pumping management system (ME-GI).  The second variant, according to the calculations, allows reducing fuel consumption by more than twice compared to a traditional steam-power unit.

The cargo-fuel tanks of Gaz-Ice project of membrane type of a total capacity of about 170 thousand cubic meters are to provide a possibility of shipping LNG cargo of various size. Besides, they allow reducing vaporization coefficient at the expense of using new technologies, which increases thermal insulating value and strengthen the membrane.

“The project has been developed by Korean shipbuilders together with the world leading ship owners-operators of LNG carriers. It shows up-to-date feats of engineering in the area of liquefied-gas vessels design and construction. In particular, it has outstanding efficiency factor of the main powerplant and cargo system. The project is up to the highest environmental requirements (notation ECO-S). It considers a complex of measures and equipment for an operation amidst low temperature (notation -30Winterization) and ice class Arc4, which help the vessel to carry LNG in the water area of theNorthern Sea Routeduring navigation,” P.Shikhov, deputy CEO of PC, director of the classification and development department said.
