Rosneft started drilling in the Sea of Okhotsk

​The JV of Rosneft and Statoil ASA has started to drill an exploratory well in the Sea of Okhotsk.

The realization of shelf projects in exploration and extraction is one of the most important strategic goals of the company, contribution in the future of the entire oil and gas sector. Rosneft is the only company in the country that goes on working on new projects at the shelf in conformity with its license obligations despite of the extremely difficult external environment. We are happy we have started the key stage in the framework of the long-term contract of cooperation with Statoil – drilling of exploratory wells in the Sea of Okhotsk, I. Sechin said.

The Ulberikanskaya-1 well was drilled at the Ulberikanskaya structure of the Lisyansky license site a year earlier than the undertaken license obligations. The distance from the port of Magadan to the well is about 420 km. The second well of Rosneft and Statoil is planned to be drilled during the season -2016 within the borders of the Magadan-1 site in the Sea of Okhotsk.
