"Gazprom" gives Ukraine time to think.

The transition of the country to prepay for gas is postponed.

Russia and the EU gave the Ukraine another week to jointly agree on gas supplies conditions, postponing the transition of Kiev to prepay to June 9th. This will allow continuing with talks held yesterday where Kiev still defended the price of $ 268.5 per 1 thousand cubic meters and disagreed with having to pay the $ 1.5 billion debt balance immediately as Moscow and Brussels insisted. Although the delay increases the chances to reach a compromise, it will also strengthen the bargaining position of Ukraine, which will use the extra time to fill the gas storages.
