A town in Western Ukraine rejects buying Russian gas in favour of fuel wood

The citizens of Zolochev town (population 25,000) in Western Ukraine decided to heat their houses and schools with fuel wood instead of expensive Russian gas. During the winter the town will save about 0.5 million USD.

Before that the debt of the authorities of Zolochev to the suppliers of the fuel used to make up about 3 million UAH (about 12 million RUR) every year. Last year it was decided to heat with wood and 5 boiler houses were reconstructed. This year two more boiler houses were reconstructed and the town will be fully heated with wood.
