Gas supply by Nord Stream renewed after the planned works - official
The gas transportation was shut down on April 15th.
The gas flow has been restarted after the planned 2-week shut down of the gas pipeline. Nord Stream has completed the works on the fixing of the control systems, that in future will allow to integrate 2 branches of the Nord Stream gas pipeline into a single automated system, is reported.
Nord Stream says within the 2 weeks of the shut down the integrated control system was set up and tested and the necessary certificates were obtained.
The second gas pipeline laying was over on April 18th. 3 sections of the second branch will be connected on the bottom of the sea at 2 points – in the mid-May in the waters of Finland and in early June near the coast of Sweden. In the summer the start-up works will be held and by the end of the year the second branch will be ready for putting into operation in the structure of the single transport system.
The second branch of the pipeline will be put into operation in the structure of the single gas transport system in late 2012, is reported.
The launch of the second stage was planned for October 2012.
The first stage of the gas pipeline, that connected Russia and Germany on the bottom of the Baltic Sea, with the capacity of 27.5 bln cubic meters a year was launched on November 8th 2011. The capacity of the 2nd stage will be the same.
After the launch of both branches by the end of 2012 the gas pipeline will be able to annually supply up to 55 bln cubic meters of the Russian gas to Europe via the Baltic Sea for at least 50 years.
Nord Stream with the length of 1.2 thousand km is already supplying gas to Germany. The shareholders of the project’s operator- Nord Stream AG - are Gazprom (51%), Wintershall Holding and E.ON Ruhrgas (15.5% each), GDF Suez and Gasunie (9% each).
