Japan wants to construct its own refinery in Primorye
As the Izvestia has got to know, the Japanese Government intends to include an item on construction of an oil refinery near Vladivostok in a new agreement between Russia and Japan, which may be signed between the two countries during the scheduled visit of Vladimir Putin to Tokyo (in September, the foreign mass media reported about its cancellation, but the authorities haven’t confirmed this information). This refinery may be the first oil processing plant in Russia, controlled by foreigners. Earlier, the solution to the problem of the construction of a gas pipeline from Sakhalin to Tokyo on the bottom of the Japan Sea has been already included in the agenda of the visit.
As the mayor of the Japanese city of Niigata, Akira Shinoda said, originally it was intended to place the refinery in the prefecture of the same name - Niigat, but this idea was abandoned.
- Previously, we had such plant, but we found that it will be very difficult and expensive to restore it, so the idea to construct the oil refinery near Vladivostok is worked out, - Shinoda reported to the Izvestia. - This is also a good option for Niigata, as we will have the ability to import oil products through our port.
