Gas for the Crimea can come from the "South Stream" which is under construction.

The gas for the new Crimea power generation system may come through the "South Stream" gas pipeline currently under construction, Alexander Novak, the Russian Energy Minister, announced  in an interview with Itar-Tass.

"If we talk about the construction of the generation system, it is likely to be gas fuelled power stations, that must run on gas produced here in the Crimea, and the gas that can be brought from the "South Stream", - the Minister stated.

The Crimea oil and gas producer "Chernomorneftegaz" produces about 1 billion cubic meters of gas per year. In the medium term the production on the peninsula could reach 3 billion cubic meters per year. Gas consumption in the Crimea (excluding new system) is now about 1 billion cubic meters per year.

The RF Ministry of Energy also does not preclude the use of NWF for construction of an additional transmission line from the Krasnodar region in Crimea worth 55 billion roubles.
