Eni: Italy to be able to manage without Russian gas in forthcoming winter

Italy can meet demands of the country for gas without Russian supplies through the Ukraine in 2014-2015, head of the oil and gas company Eni, Paolo Scaroni said.

“We are concerned about the forthcoming winter, but we are sure that even in the unfortunate case, if there are not supplies through the Ukraine, we will manage,” – Scaroni said.

Italy imports 90% of consumed gas and over half of this volume falls on Russia. According to Gazprom, in 2013 Italy almost doubled the purchases of gas from Russia, increased them to 25.33 billion cubic meters from 15.08 billion in 2012.
