Russia to cancel restrictions for Ukrainian steel pipes in March

According to road map, approved by the Presidents of Russia and the Ukraine, from March 1 the Russian government must cancel restrictions for import of steel pipes from the Ukraine to Russia.

Zinc production falls a lot, but lead production even more

Rosgeologia to look for gold at the Kamenny pik site in Chukotka till 2017

By results of Rosnedra’s contest Georegion (a part of Rosgeologia) has got the right to conclude a state contract to search for gold within the Kamenny pik site in Shmidtovsky district of Chukotka; it plans to complete works at the end of 2016, Rosgeologia reports.

In the first 11 months of 2013, the Ukraine exported roughly 24 million tons of metal products

In the first 11 months of 2013, the Ukraine supplied about 24 million tons of metal products to the amount of $13 billion to foreign markets, chief of Gosvneshinform’s Department for Analysis of Ferrous Metallurgy Markets Alexander Sheiko reported.
2013 was quite difficult for the Ukrainian metallurgy. And although final results haven’t been summed up yet, some trends are clear.

In January, South GOK increased iron ore concentrate production by 10%

In January, South GOK increased iron ore concentrate production by 9.6% to 977,500 tons and reduced agglomerate production  by 16.2%  to 207,000 tons in connection with the planned repairs of agglomeration machine #3. In 2013, the combine increased production  of agglomerate by 19.3% to 2.414 million tons and iron ore concentrate by 5.3% to 10.937 million tons.

In January, Zaporozhstal increased metal items production

In January, Zaporozhstal increased metal items production by 3.9% to 293,400 tons, including 336,600 tons of steel (+2.3%) and 283,800 tons of cast iron (+1.7%).
In 2014, the enterprise is going to enlarge all major production indices.
Zaporozhstal is a large Ukrainian enterprise. It specializes in flat steel sections. In 2013, it made 3.225 million tons of rolled steel (+2.4%), 3.82 million tons of steel (+0.9%), and 3.219 million tons of cast iron (+0.8%).

In 2013, Norilsk Nickel reduced production of all metals, except copper

Norilsk Nickel, the largest world producer of nickel and palladium, has announced preliminary industrial results of its work in the 4th quarter of 2013 and in 2013.
In the 4th quarter of 2013, the nickel production made up almost 74 thousand tons that is by 1.5% more than in the 3rd quarter of 2013. On the whole, by results of 2013, the nickel production fell by 5% as compared with 2012 to 285 thousand tons due to following factors:

  • Decrease in supply of nickel matte, made by Zapolyarny subsidiary, to the Kola mining and metallurgic plant;

In January, the Ukraine reduced steel production by 12%

They failed to accomplish the production plans by 7.5% for steel (2.7 million tons), by 6.8% for cast iron (2.5 million tons), and by 0.8% for rolled steel (2.3 million tons).
They reduced steel production by 12% to 2.506 million tons, ready steel by 8% to 2.307 million tons, cast iron by 6% to 2.338 million tons, pipes by 5% to 89,000 tons and coke by 2% to 1.488 million tons.

The titanium industry continues to grow.

Mechel pledges blocking shareholding of the coastal Trading port Posyet

OJSC “Chelyabinsk Iron-and-Steel works”, part of “Mechel”, attracted a credit line of $150 million at “Alfa-Bank” in the second half of 2013. “Mechel” has offered 25% minus 1 share of the enterprise “Trading port Posyet” as security on the credit agreement, RIA PrimaMedia states, citing “Zolotoy rog”.
“Mechel” unites coal, iron ore, steel, roll products, ferroalloy, heat and electric power producers. Mechel also comprises 3 trading ports, inclusive of the “Trading port Posyet”, “port Vanino” and own transporting operator.
