Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers increases quota on import of coke coal

During the session on October 30 of 2013, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to increase quota on import of coke coal by 1 million tons to 11.2 million tons, the magazine Capital reports.
The expert report says that the quotas introduction was good to increase the sales of coal, produced in Ukrainian mines: in the first eight months of 2012 the import of coke coal made up 9.357 million tons, and in the first eight months of 2013 – 8.757 million tons.

Man from Mechel heads Zlatoust metallurgic plant again

A new chief has been assigned at the Zlatoust metallurgic plant, the enterprise’s press centre reports. Alexei Alexeev became the acting General Director from November, 1.

In September, the Ukraine extracted 6.8 million tons of coal

In September, the Ukraine extracted 6.7981 million tons of coal, the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry reports, by 5.3% more than the planned, and by 0.9% more than in September 2012. In particular, the mines extracted 4.884 million tons of energy coal and 1.9141 million tons of coking coal (+2.4%).

OMZ increased net loss by 10 times

In January – September, United Machine Building Plants JSC, OMZ increased net loss by 10 times to 431.6 million rubles by RAS compared to 41.8 million rubles of net loss within the corresponding period of the previous year. OMZ PR-service fails to give any comments on the spot about the reasons for growth in losses. Within the period, revenue reduced by 3% to 1.547 billion rubles, gross profit reduced by 7% to 354.7 million rubles, and sales loss increased by 1.7 times to 257.4 million rubles. Management expenses increased by 20% to 257.4 million rubles.

Severstal increases dispatch of products to Russian pipe enterprises

In the first nine months of the current year, the Cherepovets metallurgic plant, one of the largest integrated steel-smelting plants in the world (a part of Severstal Russian Steel) supplied over 1.3 million tons of rolled metal to Russian enterprises of the pipe industry.
The supplies grew by 9% or by 116 thousand tons as compared with the same period of the previous year. The growth took place mainly due to increase of the supplies to producers of medium and small diameter pipes; pipes of this segment (structural and gas and water conveyance pipes) are mainly used in the construction industry.

NLMK sells 20.5% of its European assets to SOGEPA

NLMK sold 20.5% of its European assets to Belgian SOGEPA, AK&M reports. As SOGEPA takes part in the company’s management, the investments of NLMK in NBH are reflected in the consolidated reports prepared in compliance with US GAAP, by the business interest method since September 30, 2013.
Belgian state company SOGEPA agreed to buy 20.5% of Belgian department of NLMK for 91.1 million EUR. This is how NLMK attracts the strategic investor, it is the part of the long-term program aimed at improvement of the efficiency and optimization of the costs of NLMK Belgium Holdings.

No reduction in copper and lead concentrate production

Severstal-Balakovo plant is almost ready to supply the enterprise with gas

The automated gas-distributing station Severstal-Balakovo plant conducts the start-up works with use of natural gas. This is the final stage of the preparation for the gas supply to the enterprise for further complex testing of the technological equipment of the long product rolling mill with use of the base metal.
The automated gas-distributing station is one of the key energy sectors of the mini-plant. Its main function is the reduction of natural gas with the pressure of 5.4-0.6 MPa and the maintenance of the pressure at the target level. Gas will be used by the heating furnace of the long product rolling mill.

UC Rusal anticipates aluminium consumption growth by 6% a year within 2013-2015

The world consumption of aluminium will increase by 6% a year within the period from 2013 to 2015, O.Mukhamedshin, the director for strategy and business development of UC Rusal said.
He has also added that amendments into the storage regulations on the London Metal Exchange (LME) are expected to have an impact on the aluminium market. According to him, aluminium supply shortage is monitored everywhere, except China, due to a reduction of production capacities and high level of metal consumption.
